7 Signs Your Gutters Need Cleaning

Gutters are easy to forget — until they overflow. Here are the signs it's time to clean before the next rain causes real damage.

1. Visible plants or sapling growth

If you see anything green growing in your gutters from the ground, they're past due.

2. Sagging or pulling away

Wet debris is heavy — sagging means your gutters are full.

3. Water spilling over the front

Clogs force water over the top during rain, eroding landscaping and risking foundation damage.

4. Stains under the gutters on siding

Dirty overflow leaves streaks down siding — a tell-tale sign.

5. Pests

Standing water and debris attract mosquitoes, rats and birds looking to nest.

6. No water coming out of downspouts in rain

If water isn't flowing out the bottom, it's stuck somewhere up top.

7. It's been over a year

Most South Bay homes need cleaning at least once a year. Two if there are mature trees nearby.
